May 10th Meet & Greet with Pol Engels, the artist behind the shoe label Biography

No matter how many shoes one has, there is always room in the closet for one more pair… Liza Snook of the Virtual Shoe Museum and Maryline Liabeuf, shoe designer and owner of LaBeuf Shoes are fans of the shoe label Biography. Therefore we are happy to introduce to you the designer behind these special shoes.


We like to invite you to meet Pol Engels and view his new collection in Amsterdam on Thursday May 10th.

Pol Engels is a passionate shoe designer based in Antwerp. With his background as an artist and costume designer Pol makes shoes that transcend the ordinary shoes. He adds theatrical elements to his shoes and accessories such as special rubber paints and he works with extraordinary leathers and fabrics. He is the man behind the ‘Bic’ costumes and shoes from the Belgian multidisciplinary artist, playwright and stage director Jan Fabre. The combination of Pol’s skills as a shoe designer and his experience as a costume designer comes back in his label Biography.

He experiments with paint on his shoes and he also uses spatial materials on his shoes (rubber, pompons, watches) and he plays with the light and folds of fabrics and leather. His shoes not only look special, they also very comfortable and of high quality through his intensive cooperation with leading manufacturers in Italy.

On Thursday 10th of May there will be a Meet & Greet with Pol Engels when he presents his new collection at LaBeuf Shoes in Amsterdam. This collection includes ankle boots, long boots, stocking-boots, fabulous high heels, unique painted rubber ballerina shoes and tango shoes. These tango shoes are not only to dance on they are very nice summer sandals as well. During the presentation on May 10th the Biography shoes can all be ordered.
