Wooden clog sole combined with Nike sneaker, adorned with golden eyelets, 2025.
Verheul: ‘Clogs are wooden footwear that have been worn in the Netherlands since the Middle Ages. For many people, they remain an inseparable part of Dutch culture, still associated with the countryside and traditional cultural events. However, these iconic Dutch shoes are rarely seen in today’s streetscape.
With this project, I want to carry historical significance forward in a contemporary way. In my view it is important that clogs return and become a normalised part of modern society once again. They are a historical example of how a traditional material like wood can be used in an industry that is now dominated by other materials. Through this collection I want to show that walking on wood does not have to feel traditional. It is a wooden shoe that fits you, offering both innovation and a fresh perspective.
This collection is my interpretation of translating a historic material into contemporary society, creating a connection between heritage and the present.’
