One off leather sculpture, 2024.
How does one capture the silent tension in a room? The unspoken distance, the immense weight of two people who share the same space yet live in separate worlds? If I were to give this feeling a form, what would it be? A twisted, distorted shape? A sculpture that looks whole from afar but reveals its cracks only when you dare to get close? Or perhaps something more unsettling, a creature with two heads facing opposite directions, forever bound yet never truly seeing each other?
Kletina: ‘These are the emotions I wrestle with in my studio, exploring them through leather and wood, through form and the empty space between forms. This sculpture is my attempt to understand this kind of relationship, one that has settled into a quiet suffocating comfort. A partnership where two people move in parallel lines that will never meet held together only by the gravity of habit. They are a couple in definition, but not in spirit, trapped in a connection that no longer breathes.
So I am left with these questions that haunt my work: What does it truly mean to be together? Can a bond survive without presence? Can love exist without connection? And the most terrifying question of all: how do we find the courage to recognize when something once whole has become hollow?’
