Bird of Passage

Inês Osório de Castro

Wall sculpture composed of 38 pairs of white-lacquered women’s shoes on a wooden surface, 2012.

Measurements: 230 w x 80 h x 25 d cm.

Bird of Passage speaks of the woman in transition. The woman who does not see herself reflected in a stereotype, yet embraces whatever labels she chooses, because she is independent and above all, free. It speaks of a woman who multiplies into various Selves, unfolding into different personas and, in doing so, reinforcing and revealing her true identity, focus and tenacity.

For the exhibition “Deux ou Trois Choses Que Je Sais d’Elle” at ZetGallery, I present a body of work—
a kind of ode to the Woman who transforms Earth into Air, words into actions, and desires into achievements. The Woman who stands on firm ground yet dreams big.
The Woman who wanders and seeks new flights rather than simply walking paths laid out by others.
These works speak of the magic of self-discovery and the courage of self-assertion. Renewal, (r)evolution.
