A tribute to Alexander McQueen

Noa Rubin

Inspired by Alexander McQueen’s armadillo shoe. The shape is inspired from the armadillo’s defensive action of curling up into its armored shell like a ball. The shoe creates armor for the foot and captures the moment that the armadillo is scanning his surrounding for potential dangers in order to determine what shape he should assume next. The foot emerges from the shoe creating a contrast between the organic foot and its hard armor shell, the shoe.

Materials: goat leather, synthetic cork, natural cork, magic steel clay, sole leather, karkit fiberglass.

Technique: hand sculpting, wet molding, leather coating.

The shoes where the product of the shoe course at the Bezalel Academy of art and design, with professor Eliora Lemmer Ginsburg.
