Yukie Kon is a shoemaker based in Tokyo, Japan. She grew up in a family that enjoyed making things and the changing seasons. From an early age she spent her time making things beside her grandmother, who worked as a kimono maker. She discovered the shoemaker’s path through various experiences of making things and started learning shoemaking in 2008. In 2011 she started working as a member of MISAWA SHOE DESIGN and has been working there ever since.
Her inspiration comes from glimpses of nature she sees in her day to day life. It could be drops of water on leaves on a rainy day, insects perched on plants or the sound of leaves rustling in the wind. She hopes to continue the journey of creating pieces that fuses the beauty of nature with the shape of shoes.
