Vadim Kibardin

Vadim Kibardin is known for his signature work with cardboard and paper. Every piece of furniture that Kibardin makes is one of a kind, there is no mold, and he shapes them all himself. We are now moving towards a sustainable lifestyle, but Kibardin has been doing this for over 25 years. Kibardin concentrated on the hands-on manipulation of paper to impart something of his personality to them and to discover unique forms which ultimately developed into sculptural pieces.

Kibardin’s iconic sculptural furniture objects are made using discarded cardboard parts held together with a glue of artist’s own creation, a mix of rice paste and hardener.

Covered with black paper, or colorful packaging they demonstrate a tactile approach to sculpture, playing with texture, experimental techniques, and natural materials.

Kibardin describes his work as “Now it makes sense that we’re choosing to fill our homes with handcrafted objects made from natural materials. We hanker after things with a sense of human touch. The love and energy that goes into making things is part of what make us happy. These objects are handmade, beautiful, functional, and fully sustainable. Gone are the clean lines of the past. In the digital age, it seems we crave the imperfections of analogue. Some imperfections are important in helping us to understand the world.”
