Leather mule featuring a glossy black patent leather overlay shaped like an eyeglass frame across the vamp, with clear PVC/vinyl inserts representing the lenses, 1989.
Inspired by Surrealism and trompe-l’œil visual illusions, Kumagaï designed the upper to create the illusion of a pair of eyeglasses resting across the top of the foot. Small metallic studs near the collar imitate the hinges and rivets of real spectacle frames.
Part of the collection of the Dutch Leather and Shoe museum, Waalwijk, The Netherlands.
