Third year assignment 2013, choose an ethnical shoe and create a replica, then design a collection of 4 pairs of shoes, for the Academy of Fine Arts in Sint-Niklaas Belgium (SASK).
Part of the collection ‘Geometries’, laser cut wood on leather, 2013.
I chose this theme because of my interest in architectural trends such as Art Deco and my love for the Scandinavian interior design.
In this shoe, small pieces of leather were glued together. Hereby volume was created in the geometrical pattern. The foot is held in place by the surrounding edges inside, on the front of the slipper. The soft mimosa yellow lining on the inside is visible when you look at the lateral outside of the shoe, which makes it very elegant.
