Dutch research center TNO Eindhoven approached Bergmans to create the world’s first fully functional 3D printed shoe. They looked for someone with knowledge of footwear, yet with an open mind to think beyond the current traditions of shoe making. TNO’s expertise of 3D printing and Bergmans’ experience and ingenuity then lead to the Head Over Heels and the Snaker concept, which solves all issues that come with the current limitations of 3D printing, such as the rigid material, through the combination of an ingenious hinging system and a custom made fit. At the same time it demonstrates how the technology can offer many new advantages to footwear.
