SHOES, SHOES, SHOES, A round trip in the world of shoes

This friday night 28th of June six passionate shoe professionals tell their shoe stories. In small groups you will be able to follow the shoe from design till sales. For this ‘shoe evening’ the theme is innovation – what could be more, which has never been seen before, which is repetition of what has already been previously worn?

The shoe professionals are: Marloes ten Bhömer, René van den Berg, Marc Smits, Liza Snook, Iris Schieferstein, Marlie Witteveen and Marijke Bruggink.

Is Marloes ten Bhömer from this world? Her shoes designs say no. In her designs she pushes the limit of the idea what is a shoe.

The fashion world lies at the feet of René van den Berg who learned the trade from his father and grandfather. He is the man who can make the extravagant designers sketches from Jan Taminiau, Thierry Mugler and Klavers van Engelen into wearable, comfortable shoes.

How to choose shoes? Marc Smits runs the famous shoe store Smits in Arnhem together with his wife. How does he makes his choice in the abundance of footwear and how does he keeps his customers happy?

By documenting her shoe collections Liza Snook started the Virtual Shoe Museum in 2004. Now she is asked by museums to curate and organize exhibitions, selects shoe images for several publishers and realizes her own shoe projects. Tonight you can choose the shoes from which she will tell their story.

The German artist Iris Schieferstein will tell her story. Se has worked with dead animals as raw material for her pieces of art for many years. She joins the fragments together to new creatures and thus gives a new face to death. No matter, if her arrangements follow paintings of the great masters of art or if the joined objects turn out to be whole words – her work always gives evidence of aesthetic intuition and her inclination to subtle entertainment. The earlier you die – the longer you are dead.

The curators of the shoe exhibition ‘Elevation’ Marlie Witteveen and Marijke Bruggink, the duo behind the shoe brand Lola Pagola, tell about their inspiration that has led to this exhibition.

So put on your best walking shoes and join us in this walk in the shoes round trip!
