SHOEFACTORY at Meesterlijk
From Friday November 29th till December Sunday 1st 2013 the fourth edition of Meesterlijk will take place in Amsterdam at the Westergasfabriek. During Meesterlijk the Machine house will be transformed into an actual SHOEFACTORY. The Dutch Shoe Academy will demonstrate at Meesterlijk how a shoe is created: from concept, sketch, to the final end product. Students will be operating the sewing machine, skiving machine and sanding machine.
Patterns will be cut, parts will be stitched together, shafts will be pinned to their lasts and soles will be sanded into shape. At the SHOEFACTORY everyone is welcome to work with leather. Join the work table to ‘pimp your shoe’ by making a jamboree or assemble your own mocassin.
Kids Workshops
Every day between 16.00 – 18.00 hrs. there is an open workshop for children. Kids are free to just come and go here as they please. The main thing is for them to discover what it is like to work with these materials and experience shoe making hands on. At the SHOEFACTORY they can purchase the ‘Do It Yourself Mocassin’ kit and get started. Children up the the age of 12 can come to Meesterlijk free of charge, providing they are accompanied by an adult.
There are long supervised tables where the kids can work on their mocassins with assistance. Not finished yet? No worries! You can take it all home to complete at your own pace.
The event
In november 2013 the fifth edition of Meesterlijk will take place. This is the event where product designers, fashion designers, food designers and artisans share their passion for design and craftsmanship with the public.
During 3 days established Masters will stand alongside talented novices at one of the most stunning and inspiring venues of Amsterdam: the Westergasfabriek!
Where can you buy objects directly from the product designers, fashion designers and artisans themselves? Where can you still find the pure passion for the creation process? At Meesterlijk, the contemporary event for design and craftsmanship.
3 days – 3 venues
At this 3 day long event 3 venues will be home to professionals from traditional crafts such as gold and silversmiths and carpenters together with designers and manufacturers of handmade design. Your ticket offers access to all these venues.
