ROMBAUT

Belgian designer Mats Rombaut created his eponymous all-natural contemporary footwear concept in 2015 having completed five years of experience in luxury accessory development, production and management departments at Parisian house Lanvin and Milan-based house Damir Doma. Artisanally crafted in Italy, constructed in Portugal and hand-finished in Paris, ROMBAUT shoes represent a crossover between conceptual high fashion design and environmental responsibility.

Striving for a more equitable future, ROMBAUT is determined to protect bio-diversity in our environment. Transforming materials at a fundamental level ROMBAUT creates new, eco-conscious fabrics that contribute to a more eco-aware fashion landscape. As a response to the ecological problems caused by synthetic glues and tanning chemicals used in creating traditional leather shoes, ROMBAUT is resolved to develop a viable and luxury alternative to fast fashion footwear industries. Creating sustainable shoes from plant-based materials, the vegan footwear brand aims for progressiveness in design and innovation; eliminating toxic substances and developing natural materials from coconut, fig and pineapple fibers, and tree bark alongside organically grown cotton cellulose.

Taking on structural qualities of contemporary architecture, ROMBAUT’s designs encompass a measured study of proportion and materials. Low slip-ons, mid-top lace-ups and chunky sneaker silhouettes are realised in minimal, neutral colourways and constructed from grained vegan leather and latex-coated cotton canvas fabrics. Proposing strong aesthetics and ethical values, ROMBAUT shoes are forward-thinking objects with angular constructions, clean lines, and precise finishings with a directional and sustainable core.
