Pedro Carvalho de Almeida

Pedro Carvalho de Almeida is a designer, educator, and researcher from Porto, Portugal, known for pioneering Brand Archaeology as a methodological system. He holds a PhD from Central Saint Martins, University of the Arts London, with research funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) and by the Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) UK. He has held teaching and research positions at prestigious institutions including Central Saint Martins (London), ENSCI-Les Ateliers (Paris) and the Innovation School at The Glasgow School of Art.

His career is marked by a deep commitment to translating historical and cultural heritage into modern design strategies, fostering local specificities in an era of reglobalization. Teaching covers Strategic Design Management and the Revitalization of Heritage Identity, bridging the gap between archival research and contemporary manufacturing application. His work includes curating exhibitions, notably “Sneakers: Portuguese brands from the New State to the turn of the millennium” (2023) and “Inexhaustible Land” (2025), focusing on the recovery of uncharted design narratives.
