Out on the Town!

From April 5 till 12 August The Museum of Bags and Purses, exhibits Out on the Town!Bags, shoes and hats dating from 1900 to the present.


This exhibition shows the development of bags, hats and shoes dating from 1900 to the present. Showing the bags together with shoes and hats will provide a view of changes that took place in fashion throughout the twentieth century.The Museum of Bags and Purses will display handbags from its own collection in combination with shoes and hats from other collections. Together they tell us about the times, the fashions, economic and technological developments as well as customs.

In Out on the Town! historical and contemporary shoes, and handbags by designers and fashion houses such as Chanel, Prada, Christian Louboutin, Stella McCartney, Manolo Blahnik and Jan Jansen are on display. As well as a late-sixties red vintage clutch and matching Herbert Levine shoes, owned and worn by Bette Midler.

The majority of the shoes on display come from Great Britain’s Northampton Museum & Art Galler. Many hats and matching accessories shown in the exhibition are from the private collection of Tiny Meihuizen-Wijker, who manages the largest historical collection of hats in the Netherland. Other loans have been granted by shoe designers Jan Jansen and Renate Volleberg, Prada and by the hat designers Marianne Jongkind and Mirjam Nuver.
