Mathieu Hagelaars: ‘Our society keeps on consuming and we lost the value of our possessions. Mass production and mass consuming is happening all around the world. The only thing what the consumer cares if their demands will be satisfied, it’s a short term way of thinking and consumers aren’t the ones who’ll mind about the long term developments.
If we keep on consuming like we do right now, we have to discover new resources to keep track on the society needs. Right now the mass producers are big, but they are the only ones that are capable to expand their production in line with the consumers mass. On the long term they will decide what we will be offered in stores and we’ll be dependent on big corporations.
By stimulating consumers to up-cycle used products we’re already a step closer to a more sustainable lifestyle, but above all we can be unique individuals.’
