Track n’ Roll

Mariann Hendrikson

Sandal-like track overshoe that you wear over your normal sneakers, 2025.

Underneath, it has six wheels and a moving rubber track — like something you’d find on a tank or a tractor. It lifts you slightly off the ground, giving you better grip and more stability on soft, muddy, or flooded terrain.

The shoe is made from rubber, plastic and metal. It’s heavy enough to help you stay grounded when the wind is strong, but helps you roll around when the terrain is uneven. It’s more than a fashion item or a smart gadget. It’s a tool — something to use when your usual shoes simply aren’t enough.

Inspired by climate change and the changing and unexpected weather conditions. It is a speculative design project and provokes the topic that what if we prepared for global warming the same way we prepared for war? Should we be testing new footwear to be able to manage our daily lives in flooded streets and muddy terrains? So, this shoe is an overshoe for such conditions. The track underneath acts like a tank in war zones, keeping us safe and stable.
