Lina Welsch studies shoe design at SASK, d’Academie beeld Sint-Niklaas in Belgium.
Welsch: ‘I studied civil engineering architecture in Brussels. After a few years of working in the contracting world, I finally entered the architecture world. Trends in architecture and fashion often have the same starting points which I find fascinating. More specific, because architecture is the largest possible work of art that one can create, while the scale of shoes is very small. User-friendliness is important to both, and achieving this while looking for new shapes and unusual designs is what makes designing so much fun. From an early age I have had a passion for detail, materials and story. I can now fully utilize this passion when making shoes.’
