The Wall of Infinity

Kristine Dekimpe

Embroidered layered leather ankle boot, inspired by the Great Wall of China (infinity, culture, power). Part of the graduation collection ‘Mûr Mûr’, 5 pairs of shoes, 4th year SASK, d’Academie Beeld Sint-Niklaas in Belgium, 2020.

DeKimpe: ‘There are well-known or infamous walls all over the world. They symbolize attachment, fear, aversion, hate or hope. Walls are there to protect, to separate, to intimidate, but they can also suffocate. Walls are built or sometimes they are torn down, or broken out. There is ‘what you see’: stone, iron, color, height, shadow, hard/soft material. There is ‘what you feel’: protection, safety, suffocation, threat, heat, coldness, sadness. There is ‘what you do: painting, playing, defending, decorating.’
