Kobi Levi Footwear Art extended till January 5th 2014

The exhibition Kobi Levi Footwear Art is, thanks to all the media attention, one of the most successful exhibitions of the Dutch Leather and Shoe Museum in Waalwijk in the last years. Therefore this wonderful exhibition of Kobi’s thirty-five sensational designs will be extended till January 5th 2014.

After the conceptual design shoes by Japanese designer Kei Kagami the museum brings more top design into the limelight this summer! This time it is the turn of quirky Israeli designer Kobi Levi.

Bezalel Academy of Arts & Design
Levi was still in secondary school in Tel Aviv when he created his first shoe designs from cardboard. Studying at Bezalel Academy of Arts & Design in Jerusalem was the next logical step. Levi graduated in 2001, before working as a freelance shoe designer. In the years that followed, he learned the intricacies of the shoemaking art to the minutest detail.

Everyday things as a source of inspiration
Meanwhile he made the most amazing shoes he could think of, purely for his own enjoyment. He drew inspiration from everyday things: objects that are normally as distant from a shoe as a polar bear is from the South Pole!

Lady Gaga and Whoopi Goldberg
It was precisely this type of eccentric art in the form of shoes and with the help of internet that Kobi was able to appeal to a huge audience. Photos of his work in numerous versions find their way to blogs and social media. The fact that celebrities like Whoopi Goldberg and Lady Gaga were spotted wearing his designs also significantly helped to raise Levi’s brand awareness. Meanwhile Levi even started a collaboration with Disney!

A selection of shoes by Kobi Levi are on sale at Kobi Levi Design. Potential buyers might be shocked at the price tags. The cheapest models start at $1.500. For more exclusive models, shoe lovers should be prepared to spend a tidy $2.100, but one should realise that all available styles are custom handmade pairs in a limited edition of 20 pairs per style!

Scoop!
For those who wish to see the shoes first in real life before buying or for those who need to save a little longer, from 2 June there is an opportunity to view the most prominent models ‘live’. This exhibition is a real scoop for the Dutch Leather and Shoe Museum, never have so many Kobi Levi shoes, no less than 35 pairs, been on show in one exhibition!
