The recent textile art sculptures by Joyce de Gruiter take us to an own world full of dark fantasies and absurdities. Her work features universal themes such as suffering, loneliness and death. The centrale figure of the artwork Handle me With Care, wearing men shoes, looks masculine but has no face and can also be feminine or androgynous. The neckties stands for power, status and authority. But the pose of the human figure in the wooden crate reduces it to vulnerability and powerlessness.
