Lilith

Joke Decoo

Patent leather over the knee platform boot with spiraling padded stripes, second year SASK, d’Academie Beeld Sint-Niklaas in Belgium, 2020.

DeCoo: ‘In certain versions of Adam and Eve’s (also called Lilith) story, it is written that Adam wanted his wife to be submissive to him and do as she was told. Lilith did not care for his attitude too much and reminded him that they were created as equals by God. As they were unable to resolve this issue, Lilith left the Garden of Eden, never to return. This version of events has led her to be seen by some as a symbol of female empowerment. With this boot, I represent how for a long time she was a prisoner surrounded by the beauty and colors of nature.’
