Footwear combination of rubber sandals and tree trunk platforms, 2012.

For some religions, the sandals are a substitute for the body of immortals and also a mean of transportation through the air and a tool of immortality. Platforms are made of two halves of a tree trunk that together makes a whole when standing with one foot next to the other. Symbolising life and a perpetual relation between the sky and the earth, the mortal and immortal.

This footwear piece was created as part of my ‘Jenny and Away’ collections. Both projects, in different ways, explore my childhood and memories of stories about a family member – Jenny, that passed away before I was born.
