Everlasting – Timeless footwear

This international shoe exhibition will open on 17 August 2025 in the Castle Church of Schloss Neu-Augustusburg in Weißenfels, Germany. On show from 19 August 2025 till 31 May 2026.

The shoe collection at Museum Weißenfels is among the largest and most diverse in Europe, representing a key part of Saxony-Anhalt’s consumer goods history. It includes footwear from across the world and from different eras including models from the former GDR. A highlight is the historic collection with pieces dating from around 1560 to 1950.

In 2024 the museum hosted a successful workshop with renowned Israeli shoe designer Kobi Levi. This collaboration continues with a special exhibition exploring the development of shoe design and craftsmanship, both aesthetically and technically, within Weißenfels’ long shoemaking tradition. This exhibition presents rarely seen items from the museum’s depots alongside Kobi Levi’s bold contemporary creations such as ‘Blossom’, ‘Banana’ and ‘Chewing Gum’ that are celebrated worldwide as wearable sculptures. This combination of old and new offers fresh insights and shows how a functional object can become art. On 250 square metres, around 250 pairs of shoes and selected items, including production machines, offer a journey through time. Visitors from near and far are invited to rediscover the museum and southern Saxony-Anhalt.
