The Target

Elvira Rajek

Unique sculpture, mixed media, 2017.

Part of Jan Jansen Shoe Treasures, original Jan Jansen boot custom made for Mathilde Willink (late 1960’s).

The conscious mise en scène has been an important component of Elvira Rajek’s work. Having started with staged portraits, later she has focused on still life and turned to a surrealistic way of working. She assembles the pictures and thoughts in her unconscious and conscious to create a new vision and a new way of seeing.

Mathilde Willink was the extravagant muse of Dutch Magic Realism ‘imaginary realism’ painter Carel Willink in the 70’s. In 1977 she died in a tragic way by bullets and till today its was never cleared up if it was suicuide or murder. Elvira Rajek didn’t know this history, so this pierced artwork with bullet holes was a startling outcome…

Dimensions 80 x 80 cm.
