Anne Poesen studied civil engineering and architecture at KULeuven (Belgium) and footwear modelist designer at Ars Sutoria in Milan (Italy).
She has worked as a freelance designer for several shoe brands. Since 2015 she works for Belgian luxury shoe label Morobé where she designs and develops the shoe collections. Since 2006, she is the head teacher of the first academic course for footwear design in Belgium at d’Academie Beeld Sint-Niklaas (former SASK). Launched in 2005 as an experimental initiative by the Belgian government, this course has garnered significant national and international attention. It offers a unique program within part-time art education. The course spans four years, with an option for an additional two years of specialisation, and involves 10 hours of classes per week. Throughout the program, students gain comprehensive skills in shoe design and development, including drawing, pattern making, shoemaking, lasting techniques, historical and ethnographic footwear studies and material exploration.
In the past Anne was tutor of the Shoe Design Masters at ArtEZ Institute of the Arts, Arnhem (NL) and teacher at the ECCO shoe design workshop at Designskolen Kolding (Denmark).
Studying architecture transformed her perspective on shoe design, inspiring her to push the boundaries of traditional shoemaking, experiment with innovative materials and seek out clear concepts and pure forms.
Anne works and lives in Antwerpen, Belgium.
