‘Sweet things have a strange edge’
Amber Ambrose Aurèle is known for her visually unique work and sky-high heels. Amber explores the boundaries of fashion and art through her Haute Couture shoe designs. She holds an MA in Shoe Design from ArtEZ Arnhem and a MA in Art History from the University of Amsterdam in 2012. Her academic background makes her research process unique and elevates her vision of beauty and design. She has a firm belief her art of shoemaking require interdisciplinary research which explores new fields in every collection. The first to 3D-print metal heels, her creations have a sweet and twisted view that combines fine handwork technique with innovative technology.

After graduating, Amber Ambrose Aurèle established her Amsterdam-based eponymous label AAA. All her shoes are made to order.

Liza Snook/Virtual Shoe Museum about Amber Ambrose Aurèle
I am Liza Snook, a passionate shoe collector and founder of the Virtual Shoe Museum. I work as a curator for museums, image researcher for publishers and as judge at design schools.

Years ago I met Amber, when she graduated from ArtEZ and DHTA in the Netherlands, in 2012. She made a smashing graduation collection with constructed high heels with peacock feathers, themed ‘the garden of Eden’. From that moment I new she was designer to follow.

Amber is a multi talent. She creates stories, mostly fairytales, with her shoe designs, that are always very divers from her former collections.

She is always improving her crafsmenship and experimenting with new materials. Next to her design skills she is a source of inspiration for Dutch and foreign students with her art history lectures. After several successfully completed studies its only waiting for the next level or title she will gain.

We have cooperated in various shoe exhibition projects and Amber always brings lots of good ideas and positive energy. In 2017 we launched our first publication together, ‘No More Shoes’.
