Alanis Lux, born in Germany, has a multi-facetted background which includes sciences, philosophy and art and design in various fields. Her creative impulses have always gravitated towards designs around and for the human body – costumes, garments, body art, jewellery, shoes.
At the Dutch Shoe Academy in Utrecht, she acquainted herself with the craft of shoemaking before she proceeded with shoe design and graduated from SASK, d’Academie beeld Sint-Niklaas in Belgium.
Her claim is that responsible design should strive to create objects of desire that do not cause damage to the environment or suffering to animals. Therefore, her work does not involve leather or other animal-derived materials, instead she prefers metal and plant-derived materials like wood, cork or plant-based fabrics.
