Sleeping birds

Adèle Dendaletche

Knitted shoes with a leather tongue and strap adorned with frayed rope with ‘armchair’ platform soles covered in engraved leather, 2025.

Part of the third year collection ‘Sleeping birds’ for SASK, d’Academie Beeld Sint-Niklaas in Belgium.

Adèle: ‘This collection finds its place in the interior of the home, where one can dream in the comfort of an armchair. I was inspired by antique armchairs still present in our homes today, as well as by the William Morris patterns that have adorned interiors from the 19th century to the present. The story behind these shoes began during a nap, slippers on my feet, resting in a chair decorated with floral and bird motifs. In that half-dream the slippers seemed to merge with their surroundings. From this vision, like a play of smoke and mirrors, the shoes evolved into a world shaped by the spirit of William Morris’s designs.’
