The lightboots are a collection of limited edition ligths designed by Sophie Birkmayer, a member of Claassen & partner in 2005. There are three different approaches, some are painted, others are customised with a pattern of holes, and the third group are zipable oneswhere the play of light reaches the biggest interaction. Each lightboots is a unique limited item which is illuminated with energy saving ligthbulbs, not just to save costs of usage, but also to save our environment!
We all use them, some of us collect them, others adore them. most often the shoe collection is gathered in the closet, which unfortunatly unless lit by spotlights is a rather dark space. The lightboots where designed under the aspect of making a light that would fit well into the shoe cupboard. the lightboots are distingushed by the unusual, perhapss paradoxical, and uncommon effect. although if taken out of the context and being put in a different environment for example on the bedside table, the lightboot turns into a highlight of luminance, which is very appealing.
The lightboots act as objects which in a way work poetically to rise above the everyday hideousness. With the light that illuminates the boot and the manipulation of the material the old boot is being put into a new light.
