“You could say it’s my instinct. Yes I still have one.”
—Neko Case

'Hoof Heels' are inspired by both contemporary fashion trends  (AF Vandevorst) and ancient folklore (Pan). They suggest that the viewer can easily embody the animal self.

"Jackson’s precisely molded and glistening glazed forms are both beautiful and grotesque, and ask us to consider how animal instincts can live within human nature. And in doing so, she presents an interesting paradox, such as that noted by Simon Critchley: “There is something charming about an animal becoming human [but] when the human becomes animal, then the effect is disgusting.” For her, “These images provoke a psychological simile between animal and human, instinct and reason, the subconscious and the conscious."

Excerpt from 'We Believe in Something'.
By Christopher Atkins, Minneapolis Institute of Arts, MAEP Coordinator.

Material: ceramic, platinum gold luster, flock, glaze, fur (9" x 11" x 4").

Weronika Lesniak's final (collection 2009) is themed 'War of the Banks' and explores the protective qualities of a formal menswear. Research into modern financial institutions identified them as direct inheritors of the feudal system, the new 'Knights in Shining Armor'.

The four animals used on the shoes (the Horse, Eagle, Griffin and Deer) are references to the UK banks' original heraldry.
By juxtaposing patterns and referencing surface decoration, the pieces draw parallels between formal footwear and medieval armor. Traditional shoemaking and intaglio techniques were employed alongside cutting edge laser to create pieces of timeless elegance.

Lamp called 'Light my leg'. Jan Jansens world wide nickname is 'master of shoes', since this table we can call him 'master of legs'!

This lamp is avialable in different materials: white or black lacquer, also available in copper, bronze and brass. This design underlines the strenght of woman legs. Legs obviously are connected to long legs and these legs may be shown!

These sculptures are a tribute to all women who endure the torture of wearing stilettos. Their sacrifice does not go unnoticed.

This sculpture is handmade from hand picked solid and veneer woods. The height ranges from 17 inches to 24 inches tall.

My wife's own heels are first use for templates to emulate a correct insole contour, then the shaping process begins. From a solid piece of wood the actual sole is carved. After the sole has been carved and sanded smooth carefully selected veneers are applied. Then the straps (band saw blades) were attached. The insole is made of multiple layers of veneer pressed into shape. The colored lacquer is applied to the bottom sole, and multiple coats of clear lacquer are sprayed and buffed.

The SWIMS Story

Growing up with four distinct seasons in Norway, I never
let go of the black rubber galoshes that my late grandfather
passed on to me. In 1999 they accompanied me to a milder,
but still rainy Paris. Wearing Chuck Taylor’s Converse
and galoshes, I got around the severe rainfall that autumn.
Not surprisingly, my footwear became the subject of many
jokes around the art school I attended. Later, while living in New York, I blended in with an imageconscius culture that defied slushy streets, freezing winds and pouring rain. Naturally, this resulted in a lot of discomfort and many ruined pairs of shoes.

A few more Manhattan winters went by while I searched
for the right product before I finally took matters in my
own hands and decided to develop SWIMS - The Modern
Galosh! A stylish solution, embodying the essence of practicality: Wear your favorite shoes, slip on SWIMS when
the weather is rough, slip’em off when you arrive at your
destination. Enhanced comfort is assured and your shoes
are guaranteed to stay shiny. The SWIMS galosh is the product of my own experience, my appreciation of functional design, and my odd fascination with big city rain. Enjoy the weather!

I do not work with leather of fur because there is a big variety of leather and fake furs to work with.

Light sleek slipper
Compositions: goat
Heel: hidden wedge heel and small leather outer
Colour way: midnight brown/white sole
Gender: femme

Deep black nights and sharp white mornings, this slipper formed to reveal the foots gentle face and hug together the sides. The inner wedge heel provides the structure, leaving only a small hidden crescent heel outside.

Advisable Conditions: Silent stalking of bounty in heavy gravity atmosphere. Cat burglary of reclaimed Nazi heisted artwork. General languid lazy mornings involving small cats. These are Icelandic designed shoes of sruli recht, hand-lasted and numbered one by one by the master shoe maker workshop of Brendan Dwyer, entirely leather, entirely deadly.

Theme of the Collection 2008.
'I have walked, blindfolded on the splintered plank to death in your sea. Commanded the infantry of the Qualities war through rivers of blood to tired slow victory. Climbed the balcony to my Egyptians lair of blurred fantasy and stole her heart, infinitely. Each footsteps of fortune as we march under this sun into Venus ‘s orbit and deep deep intimate dusk. We redefined the old classic sneaker by using an international patented 2in1 zipper function. The 'Nat-2interchangeableduofunctionshoe' was born.
As patent holder, Stephen with its company Daywell is taking care of the Nat-2-production & facilities, while Sebastian (K&T Germany) is taking care of the brand, as well as the worldwide distribution and marketing.

iloh has designed high heels that can be adjusted to low heels in a few seconds. Starting her day, a woman never has to choose between her high or low heels anymore; she will always be able to change them during the day, if the situation requires it.

Two different systems of heel adjustment have been developed and prototyped. Both systems allow for a quick adjustment with one hand, while wearing the shoes.

General specifications of both designs:

- Heel adjustment from 8 cm (high position) to 4 cm (low position).

- In the low position the high heel is elegantly hidden underneath the shoe, inside the sole, and vice versa.

- No loose parts or tools required.

- Necessary change in sole curvature can be realized.

ZABOT combines the features of timeless shape, high-quality materials of wood and leather, trendy colours and extraordinary patterns. Fascinatingly moulded and elaborate bootlegs, bevelled heels and anatomically welcoming footbeds of the feminine and elegantly curved soles stabilize the foot and make walking an extremely comfortable experience. ZABOT has made further developments to the collection 2006. A new design and an elastic wooden sole which is forked in the ball of the foot area and connected with natural rubber (caoutchouc) make ZABOT even more comfortable. ZABOT works with a technique patented by Wood-o-fl ex from Austria. The models ZABOTs Classic will stay available. The Showroom and Atelier are located at Fürbringerstasse 25, Kreuzberg 61, Berlin. Here the shoe runs in a video (plot: man eating a shoe from the foot of a woman). The object will be freshly cast to order from the type of chocolate chosen (milk, plain or white chocolate). The '27 degrees' signifies the melting point of chocolate; the edible shoe can be stored at room temperature without any problems. Varnished or sprayed, it is endlessly edible - with the eyes. Home of the Virtual Show Museum

Please read our Terms and conditions for using this website.

The Virtual Shoe Museum was initiated by Liza Snook in 2004. Once the idea was born, a long search began for designers, photographers and publishers connected to shoes. New friendships developed and our mailbox filled with loads of material on fantastic shoes, art and design on shoes.

And finally, with the help of Taco Zwaanswijk of Interactive Affairs, who designed the site, and Bart van der Ploeg of Resolume, who programmed the database and created the content management system, we're live! And proud! And we're only just beginning...

If you have any questions about the collection, or leads on shoes or designers, please let us know. Also, we're interested in your opinion on the collection and your experiences in the museum. You can contact the Virtual Shoe Museum by mail: Liza@VirtualShoeMuseum.com.

The Virtual Shoe Museum has different 'perspectives' on a shoe or object. These perspectives (designer, focus, colour, material, etc) show related objects and thus ways to navigate the collection.

The left column of the screen contains the main navigation. Each perspective contains several 'rooms'. Each room contains thumbnails of the objects it contains (on the right side of the screen). Choose any to view this object.

On an object's page, below the image, you can view more images, video and text (if available). Above the thumbnails, you find a list showing all the rooms this object belongs to. Here you can wander the rooms and find related objects.
