Sole Expression – The Art of The Shoe

This exhibition will open in Science Museum Oklahoma’s smART Space galleries on Saturday, February 18, 2017. The exhibit features local, national and international artists and will examine how the shoe has been interpreted in art throughout history, the science and engineering behind specific shoe designs, peoples’ relationships with footwear. The artworks from Col-lec-tion by Virtual Shoe Museum are part of the show.

The exhibition ‘Sole Expression: The Art of the Shoe’ celebrates our shoes and their too-often overlooked significance in our lives. In the exhibit you will find how the shoe has been interpreted in art from the 19th century until now, modern artistic interpretations by shoe designers from around the world, local artists’ interpretations of their association with footwear, the magical shoes featured in fairytales and literature, an interactive materials touch wall including DIY shoe design tables, plus an installation that  explores peoples relationships with shoes and the powerful ways that relationship effects our lives, activities and perceptions.
