Sodra paper pulp shoe

Liz Ciokajlo

3D printed study of the platform for the proposed form and design using Paper Pulp material from the company Sodra, 2013.

A ‘soft/hard’ wool felt sock is used for the upper is a material which under heat and compression moulding can process into a bioresin type plastic. Durapulp has the strength to be used in furniture and potentially for cycling helmets.

The project needed facilities unavailable such as a fibre pulp vacuum system akin to egg carton production and high compression moulding tools and heat. The feasibility was tested through small mock up studies and a 3D printed form and construction models were produced. Bioresin counters we made in flexi material from 3D printed moulds. All forms were drawn on Rhino CAD. The same form used for the rest of the Natural Selection group was used and it was good to see the form shown on a smooth surface.
