War Rug Laundry

Airco Caravan

Collage of 7 items from the series ‘Weapon: Other’, unusual murder weapons, 2017.

The checkered pattern in the background is the design of the cover of Anne Frank’s diary.
War Rugs (or Baluch) were first woven when Russia occupied Afghanistan in the eighties, visualising tanks, helicopters, hand grenades, kalashnikovs, etc. The distinctive characteristic of these rugs is to reflect the makers’ experiences of the situation and politics of war and conflict in the region.

Wall tapestry, 100% cotton, 50 x 60 inches (120 x 150 cm).
